The bunker as a sculpture

The proposed design makes the masonry as a plastic material the central working tool. Although the war-related building has been in new use for a long time, its massive walls are consistent, impressive witnesses to the history of Germany. The massive concrete in this design is not just an image carrier. The image itself is inscribed to him as the building inscribes contemporary history, our history, through its presence in the present.

Two cracks extend over the two bunker wall surfaces. They are struck in the masonry, max. about 20 cm deep and irregular. In both cracks brass bands are inserted in places to make these dark depressions sparkle partially. The tape is merely inserted within the worn cracks and does not fill them completely. An ambivalent game between drastic slump and brilliant departure.

The two forms of the wall cracks represent concretely two statistics that disturb the local and world politics. On the one hand the conflicts worldwide since 1955, 10 years after the Second World War, until today. On the other hand, the same period for asylum seekers - from 1955 to 2017. The coherence of the two statistics can not be overlooked. Their de facto brutality hardly finds an adequate idea in relation to German history.
