WIDOK
(The View)
AudioInstallation, 2015

The work WIDOK (The View) plays with imagination. Our perception is the direct connection to the world. We gather information through our senses, in our memory we note various aspects of the environment. Whether consciously or unconsciously, our perception space is always individual and always in perspective. Regarding the history paintings in the two museums, the National Museum and the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk, our contemporary view of things in the context of historical representation is questioned. It creates balance between present and past life and its image.

Seven public benches in Gdańsk are marked with a small sign containing a QR code. By scanning it with a smartphone, the viewer can listen to a text that connects to one of the paintings from the National Museum or the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. At this moment, the person is likely to be sitting on
the bench and looking at the city scape. By visiting one of the museums, visitors will find the selected paintings in the exhibition space. Next to it are panels with QR codes. By scanning those, thez can listen to a text that connects the painting to the view from the park bench. A drawn city map helps with orientation.
The work was commissioned for The Baltic House Lab 2015.

Partners are the National Museum of Gdańsk, the National Maritime Museum of Gdańsk, the Baltic House Lab and the Nadbałtyckie Centrum Kultury Gdańsk.
